The Beach Report Recently you may be aware there has been a new law introduced which many say ended the boom in Thailand for property! Apparently the land offices are not in favour of foreigners using their Thai companies to acquire land and therefore have made it more difficult for us to buy "freehold land". If one wanted to destroy a viable market that provides much labour to Thais directly for building and all of the services associated with the land and house market ,this new law has definitely done it. Already sales have halted and some of our vendors have slashed their asking prices by 25%.The rental market will obviously roar off with this brick wall being put up for buyers and perhaps all of the unsaleable and overbuilt properties will now be rented not sold. In time perhaps we may become attuned to never-ending leases similar to Bali but please remember the land office only recognizes 30 years, what happens when you want to renew. Who knows where the lessor will be in 30 years to renew your lease yet even alive-good luck! The report is written every 2 months for your information.
